Understanding the role of cost accounting is important when one is trying to put together a team of managers to help run the company. The CEO of a merchandising organization needs to hire a CFO to run the accounting system, but the CEO has little understanding of cost accounting. The CEO will hire a consultant to help her understand the role of cost accounting, the role of ethics in cost accounting, and compare and contrast the absorption and variable costing. Compare and Contrast Absorption and Variable Cost It is important for the CEO is the manufacturing organization to understand the different between absorption cost and variable cost. One different between the two are the way accounting treats fixed manufacturing overhead. Absorption cost is all the manufacturing overhead costs applied to the manufactured goods (Hilton, 2003). Variable cost is applied to work in process as product cost, and fixed overhead costs are expensed as period cost. Other different is the timing of when fixed overhead becomes an expense. Variable fixed cost is expense immediately, and absorption fixed cost is inventoried until the goods are sold. Fixed cost is expense in both accounting system. Both systems have advantages and it will be up to management to decide which works best for their organization. Hurray for our species, we are successful and have been able to make adaptations in order to survive! Then, only 80 years later, the world population doubled to a whopping 2 billion citizens. After that, the doubling time was sliced once again. By 1960, just thirty years later, three billion people called Earth home. Different clients belonging to the advertisement department hire the company in order to develop writing contents and making graphical designs on the website. Since the task is completely client oriented, the coordinating staffs are responsible to work according to the requirements of the clients. The requirements are preloaded in the job portal and the work is done accordingly. As a matter of fact, the writers(employees) and the content developers are highly responsible for the project designing required by the clients. It has often been found that there remains a lacuna between the content developers and the clients pertaining to exact requirement files. Being the operations manager, the responsibility is shouldered upon me to form a communicative bridge between the clients and the e mployees. As an organisational leader, it is my obligation that I am supposed to guide the employees of all layers in terms of attaining the the most potential working environment thus attracting greater number of the clients to our company. Establishment of Leadership Theories: I consider myself as a democratic leader and I firmly believe in contingency leadership theories. I do not believe in the great man theory that says a leader is born. While guiding the subordinates in the organisation I make my decisions depending on the present circumstance. Therefore my leadership method does not contain a one way driving. It varies according to the organisational situations. I would like to emulate the quote of Dickens that leadership is not a position, it is rather a fiduciary calling (Dickens, 2015). Who could forget the famous dialogue from Spiderman- with great power, comes great responsibility? In my personal opinion, leadership is not matter of dictating the subordinates in regard to bring best potential out of them. According to Hersey Blanchards Situational Leadership Theory, leadership quality depends on the individual situation. Adaptation of leadership quality depends on how a leader responds to different individual situations in an organisation. This theory somehow links to the contingency theory of Leadership. I can chronicle some of the examples where I realised that I have the zeal to respond to different complex situation while working in this same organisation. Last year, due to huge influx of the trainee candidates in the organisation, the existing workers started fearing that they would lose their job. It gave birth to employment anxiety and resulted in snail- production. Though I was not a human resource manager, I had to hold the steering and drive the entire population inside the organisation to vibrant working culture. The work was quite simple- to give a brief lecture pertaining to the importance of collaborative work. For few days I decided to work with them in the same room. I did so in order to realise their feeling as junior content developer. In most of the cases in found that the employees were not communicated well pertaining to the new opening of a branch of this organisation and they were not supposed to be replaced by the newcomers. On the other hand, there was a huge problem pertaining to the placement of the newly recruited employees as the new branch was nothing but the projection. The next challenge was to settle the newly joined employees under a roof. Since there was no extra space for the fresh employees, I called some of the engineers of my acquaintances and built a temporary wooden building within a month. This was enough to provide space for fifty employees. For next one month the process ran with ease and we could manage both the offices proficiently. Decision Making Theories: I exemplified this incident as it provided me with confidence with decision making. So far I have judged my decision making process, the way of decision making could be placed under the shade of the theory of attribution. Theory of attribution is employed upon the practice of decision making process and it has two different modes of decision making: i) Internal Attributes ii) External Attributes Internal attributes are the characteristics of a person that lead to a firm decision making idea. The internal attributes may be the presence of mind in judging certain circumstances. On the other hand, the external attributes are caused by the behaviour of the situation oriented to the the decision making process. In the aforesaid incident, the internal attribute was the boldness of the decision making process. However, I personally believe that the external attribute was more effective than the internal one. The external attribute was the complexity of the situation pertaining to the shifting of the newly joined employees and construction of the temporary office. Application of Experience: The experience would definitely help me learn better process in leadership band decision making. Though the company belonged to unorganised working sector, the working experience for me has been really helpful as it provided me with ample opportunity to learn leadership quality. Leadership and Strategic Change: Learning of leadership and strategic change helps an individual identify the types of required change in the strategy and management process. It would further assist the individuals to analyse the context of the organisations in designing strategic change programmes (Booth, 2015). In case of bringing the change in the organisation or the operations a leader needs to diagnose the present situation or the problem stated in order to bring the change. In the previously mentioned case I have applied all the elements in analysing and diagnosing the problem so as to plan the change accordingly. Though the process of diagnosis did not imply any systematic process, it was based on spontaneous understanding of the situation. Then different change materials were incorporated so as to create an idea to revamp the present situation with the conceptualised one. Key Premises of the Change Management: There are four key premises of change management. These are: i) Strategy ii) Context iii) Inertia and Resistance iv) Leadership v) Strategy matters in the identification for the need for bringing the change in a particular direction. vi) Context drives in the right approach to the change depending on the mode of the circumstances. vii) Leadership is the basic need for bringing the change in an organisation (Belias, Koustelios, 2014). As a matter of fact, the change brought in the organisation where i was working, was actually motivated by the situation. My leadership quality was reflected while supposing the change for the new employees. On a daily basis most people do not see their own degree of unintentional support towards this global dilemma, but when compiled on paper one must question how mankind can, with conscience, commit these acts which shame us as human beings. Animals possess the same kinds of feelings and emotions as human beings, and without anesthesia, they are subjected to the pain as well. Mankind often fails to give animals the respect and rights they deserve, they are treated as lifeless, unfeeling scientific specimens and items that we may manipulate at our own convenience and for vanity's sake. Laboratory research involving animals is cruel and merciless treatment of helpless creatures. No law requires that cosmetics and household products be tested on animals. Nevertheless, by six o'clock this evening, hundreds of animals will have had their eyes, skin or gastrointestinal systems unnecessarily burned or destroyed (Sequoia, 27). Two of the most famous animal tests are the Draize, or eye irritancy test and the LD50, Lethal Dose 50. The Draize test is performed almost exclusively on albino rabbits, such as the Florida White, because they are cheap, docile, and are not "equipped" with tear ducts to wash away the chemicals. During the test the rabbits are immobilized in a stock with only their head protruding and a solid or liquid is placed in the lower lid of one eye of the rabbit; substances vary from mascara to aftershave and even oven cleaner. The rabbits eyes are clipped open and observed at intervals of 1, 24, 48, 72 and 168 hours. It is important to note that, during this test, anesthesia is rarely used. Reactions include inflammation, ulceration, rupture of the eyeball, corrosion and bleeding. Some of these studies continue for weeks, and all the while no measures are made to reduce suffering or treat the rabbits. Survival, however, will only lead to an entirely new set of tests, such as the skin irritancy or the LD50. Lethal Dose 50 refers to the lethal dose that is required to kill 50% of all animals in a test group of 40-200. Animals are force fed substances through a stomach tube, forced to inhale a substance, or have the substance applied to their rectum or vagina. These tests continue until half of the test animals die. During these tests animals will often endure excruciating pain, convulsions, loss of motor function, seizures, vomiting, paralysis and bleeding from every open orifice in the body. Any animals who somehow manage to survive these particular tests are subsequently destroyed (Sequoia, 29). There is also a Lethal Dose 100 test that determines the amount of a test substance required to kill 100% of the test animals. Ironically, results of these tests are rarely, if ever, used in situation of actual human poisoning. The skin irritancy test, similar to the eye irritancy test, is where an animal, most commonly a rodent, has a highly concentrated solution of a chemical in question applied to their skin. Their skin is then observed for signs of irritancy, such as redness and blistering. In some cases, the irritation can be so bad that the product actually burns through the skin. Not only are these tests cruel, but the results are unreliable and unnecessary as scientific evidence. As with the aforementioned Draize test; rabbits eyes are not the same as human eyes - there are profound differences, mainly the absence of tear ducts. In addition, different species react differently to various substances; substances that fail to damage a rabbits eyes may be toxic to a human. The computer and email technology has reduced the period it takes to transmit messages between two parties or more as emails sent electronically can be received immediately, thereby saving lots of man hours, and consequently even reducing human and vehicular traffic as people dont need to sometimes travel to send and receive documents. However, there is still the debate whether technological determinism is a theory or an attitude. This refers to the belief that technology is the agent of social change. Rousseau’s Theory about Education

â€Å"The neglected education of my fellow-creatures is the grand source of the misery I deplore.†-Mary Wollstonecraft, A Vindication of the Rights of Women. Rousseau and Wollstonecraft believed that children should be allowed to grow freely and learn to use their education practically. Children would then grow up to be free thinking adults that would keep soceity from becoming materialistic and oppressing. Nonetheless, they vehemently disagreed on who should receive such an education. Rousseau thought that only males, because they are stronger should receive such and education. Wollstonecraft believed everyone, no matter what sex, should be able to be educated to reform and better society as a whole. Though both their works were considered extreme, they are both apparent in the public education system of today. Wollstonecraft (1759-1797) and Rousseau (1712-1778) both agreed that society oppressed human kind, but Wollstonecraft felt that men were oppressing women. They both believed that education should mean letting children grow freely and placing little restrictions. They should protect them from immediate dangers and provide food and shelter. They should not, however, force books and controlled learning upon the children. He thought that children should also develop common sense and each child would choose whatever interests him to study in greater detail. He thought that this method of education would produce a well balanced, free thinking child. Therefore this would lead to a natural society rather than a materialistic one. Rousseau†s theory of natural education was not intended for all children. He felt that girls should be limited motherhood, and how to be a wife. To Rousseau, women exist in order to serve man, because they are weaker. Wollstonecraft stated that women should be taught medicine in order to take care of parents, infants, and husbands properly. She endorsed equal education for all children no matter what the sex. They should not only be taught the same things, but should be taught together, to learn social interaction they would encounter as adults. Girls and boys would attend day school together and then boys would be sent to their apprenticeships and girls would learn how to sew and other skills. Wollstonecraft tried to prove that by denying a woman†s education you are denying her the ability to raise children adequately. Therefore it would benefit both sexes if women were properly educated. Rousseau was applauded for advocating human rights and natural education but when it concerned women he broke no new ground. He actually promoted women†s role as a wife and mother present to serve her husband. He stated that because women were weaker physically that their minds were as well. Wollstonecraft upheld his philosophy of natural education to encourage individual freedom to benefit society. However, she detested his treatment of women. She advised that women and men should both be educated, and educated together. Both of Emile and The Vindication of the Right†s of Women were considered radical, they were both revolutionaries. Emile impacted practical applications, and the exploration of natural curiosity in education. Wollstonecraft†s radical idea of educating boys and girls equally, and together are applied on public education today.

For anyone who has ever suffered from writers block (and thats all of us), this will be a familiar scenario. It doesnt have to be that way though: you can beat writers block. But first you need to realise what causes it. Fight the fear Usually its down to two things: fear and lack of information. You dont have to dislike a subject to fear writing about it. In fact, your document could be about something that you find fascinating and it might still cause you problems. The trouble is that we worry that as soon as we put fingers to keyboard, reality will set in. Were afraid that it wont be perfect, that people may disagree with us or that well mess it up. Well, heres the first truth: all those fears might come true. And heres the second: it doesnt matter. Yes, it doesnt matter if its not perfect. In fact, nothing is ever perfect. The key is to realise that success is not perfection. To misquote General George Patton, better to have an imperfect report today than a perfect one in six weeks time. Because if you dont write it at all, it doesnt matter how much potential your document has. And what could be more galling than avoiding writing a perfect document and losing out to someone who wrote an imperfect one? Get what you need If fear isnt the issue, then probably its that you dont know what to write. In other words, you lack information. So get it. Perhaps you dont know what your reader expects. If so, then filling out a reader-profile questionnaire should help. (You can download one here.) And if youre still not sure, why not ask your reader or someone who knows them better than you do some well-targeted questions? Be sure to think the topic through first though, to show that youre not just being lazy. Brainstorm all that you know already with a mind map or some similar tool then put question marks against all topics that need a little more research. Whatever it is you need to know, acknowledge that, then go and find out. A few words of warning though: make sure you really do need to know it, and that youre not just being a perfectionist. Remember, success is not perfection. Kick-start your writing Finally, here are a few practical tips to get you going: Plan first. Planning can be a great way to ease yourself into the writing itself. Besides, its critical to separate the thinking from the writing, otherwise your document could end up a jumbled mess that makes sense only to you. Planning first does exactly that. Pick a leading task. Sitting and stewing will only increase your stress and muddle your thinking. So pick something that you need to do before you can write such as launching your word-processing program or opening the folder that contains the information you need. Then do that first. This will begin to put you in action mode, and make the writing itself easier. Planning is a good leading task, incidentally (see above). Set a time. Pick a time to start writing, and do your leading task just beforehand. As the time to write approaches, you should start to feel energised and able to get going. Pick an introduction. There are four types of introduction, and picking one of these types gives you (and your reader) an instant in. For instance, the Historical intro type contrasts what used to happen last year/decade or whenever with whats happening now, and creates a real sense of movement in your readers mind. Give yourself a time limit. If after all this, youre still paralysed with fear, then simply set yourself a time limit. Resolve to write for five minutes and only five minutes. Going to a new school in Massachusetts, all the way from Ireland, Phoebe Prince is ready to start a new life and make new friends. Not everything always workes out in her favor, though. As soon as Prince starts dating the star football player, the threats start flowing in. The constant torments at school leave her lonely and depressed, and when she got home, it never stopped. She was getting never ending text messages and the torments didn’t stop there. Phoebe was constantly getting harassed through social networking sites, such as Facebook. High school is supposed to be the time of her life, but she is only able to live one year of it because she takes her own life relentlessly. Cyber bullying is a problem that affects almost half of American teens (NCPC 1). Adult authorities should enact strict rules to protect vulnerable children from suffering the effects of the modern threat of cyber bullying. Although technology makes it difficult to identify the real perpetrator, the expansion of technology throughout the years has recently made cyber bullying a more prominent factor. From Myspace to Facebook to Formspring to Twitter, cyber bullying makes its way over the entire internet, and will not stop for anything. The rise of networking sites, personal Web pages and blogs brimming with the minutiae of teens antics and angst has helped to create a rich climate for cyber mayhem: Locker-room photos snapped with cell phones and broadcast on the Internet, fake profiles created on social-networking sites, salacious rumors spread in chat rooms, threats zapped across town in instant messages (Billitteri 4). They warn that young people on these sites are more likely to be the victims of cyber bullying and that they are also vulnerable to pr... ...y, has a very strict Internet usage policy with certain sites, like Myspace, blocked so students cannot access them (Cyber Bullying 3). Fons Trompenaars’ Riding the Waves of Culture, or Nancy Adler’s International Dimensions of Organizational Behavior are some of the best books on the intercultural topic.My personal favourite in the â€Å"intercultural† arena, as relevant toda y as when its first edition was published in the UK in 1991, is Cultures and Organizations: Software of the Mind by Dr. Geert Hofstede. The ground-breaking contribution of Dr. Hofstede’s research is that, through thousands of surveys of IBM professionals in dozens of countries, he is able to arrive at a numerical value for certain elements or â€Å"dimensions† which make up Culture. So for example, we learn that Malaysia, on average, has the highest score (104) for â€Å"Power Distance†, meaning that as a group they are uite comfortable accepting power inequalities in society. At the other extreme, Great Britain and Canada have low scores (35 and 39 respectively), which translate into a â€Å"limited dependence of subordinates on their bosses†. In other words, British and Canadian employees (as a group) are not afraid to approach their bosses or disagree with them. Another useful discussion centers around the topic of â€Å"collectivistic† cultures (where the interest of the group prevails over the interest of the individual) compared to â€Å"individualistic† cultures (in which the interests of the individual prevail).It comes as no surprise that the country with the highest individualism score is the USA (91), closely followed by Australia (90). At the other extreme, the countries with the lowest individualism scores are Ecuador (8) and Guatemala (6). Personally, I have leveraged his findings to arrive at the following communication paradigms, in order to make my counterparts in other geographies more at ease as we negotiate and coordinate project milestones.
